AT HELL’S ROOTS

THE STORY BEHIND THE PICTURE : After completing DEATH OF THE NATURAL ORDER [link] a part of me just wanted to keep on producing somewhat surrealistic pieces in PhotoShop. At the same time I was beginning to plot out a huge project that involved the entryway into Hell, and this image just popped up from a combination of the two ideas merging.

This is a rather simple piece as, if you notice, both sides are identical. The only things different are the steps and the hallway, which were both done in order to add, in my eyes, a strange offsetting aspect to the picture. On both sides you see the same things,; grass, trees, emblems, roots, leaves, everything is the same on both sides, as though reality in this forest is playing tricks on you. However the path that is to be taken is different and obvious enough for you to follow.

I’m not a religious man but religion has always fascinated me. When it comes to the entrances to whatever our final destination is, I have always found that in fiction Hell seems to be the more accessible of the two, with an entrance found just about anywhere. While Heaven you have to die to be able to enter through the gates. I don’t know, just my observation on the whole ‘getting there’ ideas.
